It was hot. It was steamy. And some might even say crunchy. We’re talking about the food of course.
Korvia got its teachers and their friends together for their annual summer barbecue in Bundang, Gyeonggi-do last week. With the sun coming out of hiding from a storm the previous day, Korvia teachers couldn’t have asked for a better day for a barbecue.
The restaurant Woori Jib was gracious enough to host the party on their newly remodeled front yard and patio, providing attendees with an atmosphere reminiscent of a barbecue back home. The party was also sponsored by Binggrae, one of the biggest juice companies in South Korea. All attendees were provided with free juice to help beat the heat.
Besides the beverages and food, the biggest hit at the party had to have been the real green grass (which is actually a rarity in Korea). It was nice to finally be able to sit, lay, or do cartwheels as you pleased while chowing down on barbecued hot dogs, chips, and other sides.
The party, as always, would not have been possible without the volunteers. From helping construct the photo wall, to barbecuing, and helping take some awesome pictures, the volunteers made the party enjoyable for everyone.
“Troy, the man with the beard, barbecued non-stop the entire day. I think we even made him stop, only for him to jump back on when someone mentioned they were hungry. What a legend.” said head of Korvia public relations manager Stephen Hattersley.
Teachers from all around Korea made the trek all the way to Bundang for the party. Bundang is one of the newest cities in the Gyeonggi province. It is also one of the few cities in the province to be a “planned city” meaning that the development zones were all completely planned before construction began. Bundang is one of the most requested cities by teachers coming to South Korea.
The most important ingredients to making any barbecue special is always good food, an over abundance of sun, and good friends. It’d be hard to say that attendees didn’t leave without getting a handful of new phone numbers and KakaoTalk IDs in their smartphones.
“Summer barbecues are our favorite, because they’re meant to be a relaxing departure from our typical spring and fall parties. No crowded dance floors, no shouting over loud music, just food and friends.” Said Hattersley.
Korvia holds parties for its recruits and teachers every spring, summer and fall. The next party is Korvia’s annual fall party in September. More details such as location and the date are to come.
